Holy Shnike, WTF happened?????

Yup, we've been tinkering around with a bunch of stuff and are now unleashing/forcing it on you!

1) We have Terms of Service - you should read them, because we are going to expect you to abide by them!

2) You MUST login to comment. No ifs, ands, or buts. There's an option to let you post your witty anonymous comments, but they will now be tracked to your user account, so admins will be able to sniff out trouble makers (see #1)

3) Some people like the drama. Some people don't. We're defaulting to the side of those who don't. Those horribly dramatic comment threads, err flame wars, can and will now be "buried" so the public doesn't have to be constantly accosted by them. HOWEVER, there is an option under My Camura->Account Settings that will allow you to have them included in your streams.

4) The row of post buttons are GONE - well, kind of. The interface was kind of cluttered and people kept bitching about not being able to click on the little buttons. So now all that stuff is under the new "more options" link you will see under each post. Clicking on a post does still bring up the Comments window, though.

5) Following the pop-up menu change, adding things to albums now has it's own menu that gives you control over the caption, and more complete view of the album name, and lets you control whether duplicates should be allowed in the album.

6) Basic Keyboard Navigation - this setting is turned off by default, but you can try it out under My Camura->Account Settings. When it is turned on and you are viewing a Stream, you can use the Left and Right arrow keys to go Back a Page and Forward a Page, respectively.

7) Private Message! You can now PM folks to reply to comments directly or you can just compose messages straight up. Look for the reply/arrow icon on comments lists or check out your Private Message Inbox. That link is also available from your My Camura area

8) Signups are turned off for now. They'll likely come back in the form of Invites when and if they do.

what are unique views?

holly said this about 1 year ago

I want the buttons back, too. :[

jesse said this about 1 year ago

Unique Views are Views by different IP addresses. For example, everyone from my office would look like one unique view, and that'll be pretty typical for offices.

love the private messages.

fucking IE ... I knew I forgot to test something...

shifty said this about 1 year ago

Uh, I just wanted to point something out:

The site is so fucking slow that I can click on an image, go take a shit, pour a beer, then come back to the computer and the popup is just finishing up showing me buttons and shit.

Mind you - after the overhaul 07/08 when the global/friends/private access was added and image hosting moved to Amazon, the popup windows started taking anywhere from 5s - 15s to render and fill out.

After this new round of additions, now I'm measuring an average of 35 seconds. At this point, Camura is pretty much unusable if you want to comment on anything. What gives? I'm seeing this in IE7 and IE8.

I'm pretty much relegated to using the Camura Mobile site just to have a decent user experience.

What browser are you guys using that you don't see the most fuckall abhorrent delays on popup windows? I've tried Safari w/MacOSX, FF3 w/Ubuntu, and IE7/8 with WinXP and I see delays in all of them, but worst in IE.

All of the complaints I have about the button move/removal revolve around the fact it takes upwards of 30-60 seconds for a popup window to load/remove the "loading" animated graphic.

But, I gotta tell you, the biggest piss-off annoying thing about the button removal is that you now MUST click through twice to see a full-sized image. This sucks, and is counterintuitive to usability. A user wants to have some way to instantly blow up an image, rather than clicking, waiting for a popup, then clicking again. What's the point?

All in all, everything looks good. I like the new ideas. Good work (don't want you to think I don't appreciate it, so I'm sorry for just providing criticism).

Actually, I lied. I just started trying to post comments on the Mobile site and it is taking a goddamn eon as well. Is there something going on right now that is causing the slowdown? Is the server overloaded? Do we all need to pitch in for a better one?

teo said this about 1 year ago

just an FYI. Clicking on the pictures does not bring up anything at for me. Same with the more options button.... If you are looking for votes I say bring back the buttons. thanks

jesse said this about 1 year ago

IE7 was definitely fucked, and that should be fixed now.

I'm rethinking the button stuff to get things to at least where folks are happy.

shifty said this about 1 year ago

ok, things seem slightly faster than before. when i say slightly, i mean i get a popup in around 5-8 seconds versus the 15 in days of yore, or 30-40 seconds as of this most recent update.

jesse said this about 1 year ago

IE7 simply didn't work before yesterday's changes. Other than that, we really haven't changed anything that would have drastic performance impacts like you've reported. At this point, until I can reproduce something similar, I'm gonna have to say that's some issue on your side...

shifty said this about 1 year ago

weird. it's all but gone now.

the only thing i really see that is "broken" anymore is the indexing/pages layout. that is to say, if i find a post, and "jump to post in stream", it puts me at an index that is roughly 40-80 posts prior to that actual post (privacy setting issue?). also, if i view all posts by a user, then try to use the little box in the top corner and enter a new index number to jump to, it borks up and spits me out in the "everyone's phlogs" section rather than just individual phlogs. i could show you all of these things i'm talking about if you want.

it would be nice to be able to search phlogs by a specific person also, for title or comment, is this possible (am i missing it?)

Can I come back? Please?
